Amma Illam means natural love and affection showered to the person uncared by the society. This home established by Dr. Lion. E.N. Palanisamy MJF in 1992 nurture a laudable aim to give hope for mentally retarded children.Amma Illam a Special School for the Intellectually Disabled is a dedicated institution established to nurture, educate and empower children and young adults with intellectual disabilities. Located in Cauvery Ammal Campus, Dindigul District, Tamil Nadu, the school has become a beacon of hope for families seeking care and structured learning for their children.

Admission is made between 5 and 14 years of children. Classification is made on the basis of IQ range as per AAMR model as mild, moderate, severe and profound retardation.
- Education IQ – 50–55.
- Trainable IQ – 40–50
- Severe IQ – 25–40
- Profound IQ – 20–25
